My Therapies

As a highly qualified health specialist I work intuitively at Restoring Balance and focus on whole person health. Whole person health looks at all aspects of the body’s wellness from physical, psychological, sociological and spiritual, and includes working with your nervous system to help find the source of your pain.

By using the body’s sensations I am able to target the treatments to the areas that need it. Listening to the cues from the body guides me, and each treatment is personalised for each of my clients. We are all unique, so I believe your health care should be as well!

Working intuitively allows me to tune directly to the sources of tension or pain. It also gives you an awareness of how to better understand the signals your body sends you. Allowing you to continue to heal, and more importantly help you learn how to protect yourself.

Recovering from Surgery: Scar Massage and Scar Therapy (Re:Connection)

Surgery can be nerve wracking and causes trauma to the body, not only physically but also psychologically.  There are many different factors that can affect how you heal, starting with stress, anxiety and lifestyle. That’s even before we get to post-operative physio and wound care.

Supporting you through your post surgery journey helps you to leave this trauma behind, and is an important part of the healing. Ensuring you heal from surgery as quickly and naturally as possible is the key to a successful recovery and the aim at Restoring Balance.

If you have a scar following surgery, or an accident that’s uncomfortable or restricts your movements, this therapy is for you, and can bring immense relief.

Scars can be painful because the scar tissue is thicker and less elastic than normal skin and often doesn’t move as naturally. Depending on the type of scar, it may also have affected the nerves in the area which can also be a cause of pain.

As scars heal, the skin tightens and pulls around the area, which can give that uncomfortable tightness or dragging sensation.

Re:Connection Scar Therapy Treatment

Re:Connection scar therapy treatment is suitable for almost anyone, regardless of how your scar looks or feels, and can be used to bring relief, even if your scar is old.

All of the techniques used as part of Re:Connection are gentle and hands on treatment that uses a number of different techniques to ease the tightness and discomfort around the scar and beyond to improve blood flow to the area.

ReConnection Scar Therapy Treatment - restoring balance - women's health specialist

This can help to reduce discomfort and improve movement, and can even in some cases help improve the appearance of the scar.

It can be used for surgical scars such as hysterectomy or c-sections, abdominal surgeries, keyhole surgeries or if like me, they are from past accidents (like that time you fell out of the tree when you were younger!).

It doesn’t matter if your scar is thick and lumpy, puckered and tight or even spongy, I can treat you.

Not only can this help with the discomfort, but it can do wonders for your self confidence! When you don’t spend as much time feeling self conscious about your scar, you will begin to feel more comfortable in your body, and get on with living your life.

This is what I like to call a win win situation!

Cranio Sacral Therapy (CST)

Cranio Sacral Therapy is a gentle light touch and non-invasive form of bodywork that focuses on the craniosacral system.

This cranio sacral system comprises the membranes and cerebrospinal fluid surrounding the brain and spinal cord, extending from the head (cranium) to the tailbone (sacrum).

I listen and respond to the subtle rhythms of your body which lets me know where there is tension. By applying gentle pressure around the area, I encourage the body to make subtle changes that improve the flow of cerebrospinal fluid, and restore overall balance and harmony within the body.

CranioSacral Therapy is often described as deeply relaxing and nurturing; releasing tension, and promoting a sense of calm and inner harmony.  I create a safe space for you both physically and mentally  to unwind and let go to get the most from this treatment.

Manual Lymphatic Drainage

Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD) is a specialised medical massage technique that stimulates the lymphatic system.  MLD uses precise, light, rhythmical hand movements which gently stretch the skin in circular motions along the lymphatic pathways.

This pumping movement stimulates flow in the lymph vessels and encourages the uptake of fluid from the tissues into the lymphatic system. The fluid drains through the lymph nodes where it is filtered and cleansed of dead cells, bacteria and other waste products before being returned to the blood stream.  MLD is very different to traditional massage, MLD is very light touch in comparison.

MLD is particularly beneficial following surgery.   The types of surgeries where MLD can be very helpful include cosmetic procedures like liposuction and tummy tucks, breast surgeries (augmentations, reductions, reconstructions), and surgeries that involve lymph node removal.

MLD also helps to relieve painful swelling in your arms, legs and abdomen caused by Lymphoedema.

Functional Kinesiology

Functional Kinesiology takes a hormones first approach to identify imbalances in the body.  Often hormone imbalances are at the root cause of many of our health challenges today.

At the core of this work is the ground-breaking Triangle of Hormonal Health.  It’s a model that looks at the relationship between three sets of hormones:

● Blood sugar hormones
Stress hormones and
Sex hormones

Many of today’s conditions reside in imbalances in these areas, but most people don’t know how to support their bodies to resolve their issues.

The hectic lifestyles we have today can lead to inflammation in the body, often exacerbated by our diets, resulting in higher blood sugar and a host of food intolerances. This inflammation creates a stress reaction in the body which can push your hormones further out of sync, creating the never ending cycle of feeling exhausted and stressed!

I work to help your body break that cycle, and start you feeling better on the inside as well as out.

Taking a hormones first approach we review:

1. Blood sugars and diet
2. Adrenals and Stress
3. Sex Hormones
4. Digestion
5. Immunity

As with all kinesiology we use the theory of muscle testing, and traditional Chinese medicine to hone in on the root cause. What makes Functional Kinesiology special is the application of the latest nutritional science and a hormones first approach. Emotional Coaching is also an integral part of a functional kinesiology to help support you to make positive changes. I’m one of a small number of trained Functional Kinesiologist in the UK and a Kinesiology Federation Registered Professional and also registered with the CHNC.

Rhythmic Movements for Retained Primitive Reflexes (RMT)

Our Primitive Reflexes generate specific movements as we develop through our first months of life and into our early years.  These movements are important to generate and strengthen the pathways in the brain so we can process sensory input successfully as we grow up.

If we haven’t made enough of these specific movements before they should ‘switch off’, then these reflexes can remain to adulthood causing all kinds of frustrating and unhelpful shenanigans.

Such as:

post surgery rehabilitation - restoring balance - women's health specialist

These can all be signs that you have retained some primitive reflexes from childhood.  It can be common to see these reflexes start to come to the surface in midlife women who are peri-menopausal. Nearly everyone has a degree of retained reflexes, and for the most part we have shortcuts and cheats we develop as we grow to hide the reflex that’s not fully integrated.

But when we are running low on energy or completing complex tasks, then we might run out of the ability to use our cheats, and this is where they can get in the way of everyday life. All that’s required is a simple reset and re-organisation of how we process information in our brains. This will allow the brain to build a new pathway for the correct reflex, which helps improve motor movement skills, balance, concentration and emotional regulation.

It starts with a simple assessment to confirm what is going on, and then we build your bespoke Rhythmic Movement Set. I will use my experience as a Functional Kinesiologist and Cranio-Sacral Therapist to bring you back into alignment by helping these outstanding reflexes fully integrate.

However the best time to reset these reflexes is during childhood.

That’s why I also offer this service to children, with great success. Due to their natural ability to pick things up quickly they adopt these movement techniques easily, as it’s still familiar to them.

If your child is having a tough time at school with concentrating, writing or with coordination; such as constantly falling over their own feet, struggling to learn to swim or ride a bike, and it’s leaving them feeling frustrated, then there’s a chance this could be down to some retained reflexes. If this sounds like your child, get in touch and we can have a chat.

Rhythmic Movements replicate the movements that babies and infants make as they are developing, using small repetitive movements to strengthen the connections in the brain.

Strong connections in the brain will lead to Reflex Integration (where the brain makes the needed pathway), resulting in everyday tasks becoming easier, leading to a happier home, school or work life.

Neuromuscular Testing

Neuromuscular testing is a great way to understand what’s going on in the body when you have pain, weakness, movement challenges or are recovering from an injury.

The body is very clever and when things aren’t right it will adjust to compensate, but this can cause imbalances in the body.  These may show up for pain, weakness, lack of mobility in a joint, or too much movement in a joint.

By using Neuromuscular Testing I identify the imbalances or weakness in the body. We then create a personalised program of treatment to build strength and help you on your rehabilitation journey, to get you back to feeling like you again.

This involves manual muscle testing where I apply light resistance to the area and assess how your body and nervous system responds.

Working this way is different to the traditional orthopaedic approach which is very much based on muscular strength. Working gently ensures that we keep you and your nervous system content and unstressed.

Soft Tissue & Movement Rehabilitation

Massage and Movement Rehabilitation is a comprehensive approach to enhancing physical well-being and restoring optimal function, through a combination of therapeutic massage techniques and targeted movement exercises.

This integrative approach aims to address musculoskeletal imbalances, promote healing, and improve overall mobility and flexibility.

Movement rehabilitation complements hands on or touch-based therapy by incorporating targeted exercises and corrective movements to restore proper alignment, strength, and flexibility. These exercises are designed to address specific movement dysfunctions or imbalances identified during the assessment process.

The movement rehabilitation program is typically customised to the individual’s unique needs and goals, focusing on improving posture, range of motion, stability, and functional movement patterns.

Bio Resonance Scanning

At my clinic there is a very special machine that is designed to help keep your good vibrations!  Literally.

All things have a vibrational frequency including humans. My Bio Resonance Scanner works by scanning your body and picking up the natural vibrations you have. If a different  frequency is detected in a particular area of the body, this helps to identify the place where there may be an imbalance.

When there is something out of balance, the natural energy in the body is blocked or altered, and this is what this clever little scanner does, it detects these points using the body’s own energy.  It’s a bit like being in the Star Trek transporter but more helpful, and less chance of ending up on a strange planet!

You remain fully clothed and get to relax while the scanner does its thing. I will then identify the patterns of your report, and prioritise the areas that may need some alterations to realign your body and help bring relief. Then we can start building a plan for the best treatment to get you back to feeling great again.
